Joe Hobbs received his B.A. at the University of California-Santa Cruz in 1978 and his M.A and Ph.D. at the University of Texas-Austin in 1980 and 1986. He is a professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a geographer of the Middle East with many years of field research on biogeography and Bedouin peoples in the deserts of Egypt. Joe's interests in the region grew from a boyhood lived in Saudi Arabia and India.
