Authors Yvonne Hill and Marguerite Jordan, both residents of Sanibel, in collaboration with the Lee County Black History Society, Inc., have joined together in combining historical text with captivating images that celebrate Sanibelas fascinating history. Documenting the significant roles of both white and black pioneers, all photographs were obtained courtesy of historical archives, ancestral family members, and interested collectors who share a passion for the history and preservation of Sanibel Island.
