John D. Hewitt is professor of sociology and criminal justice at Grand Valley State University. He received his BA degree in history, with a concentration in Far Eastern studies, from Western Washington State College (1968), and his Ph.D. Sociology from Washington State University (1975). Professor Hewitt is the author or co-author of four books and more than 50 articles on such topics as judicial sentencing, historical crime trends, victim-offender relationships in homicide, and the treatment of juvenile delinquency in China.
