Wendy Shepherd and Ken Hershenson are best friends, and - like Ernie - were born in Detroit, Michigan. They met in high school and reconnected JUST in time to join Ernie on his adventures. Wendy is a professional speaker, former early education teacher/director, writer, mom, and has been a sock monkey maker since she was 16. She created Ernie for her daughter over a quarter of a century ago.
