Pauline Hayton hails from the northeast of England. In 1991, she left her probation officer job in her hometown of Middlesbrough to immigrate to the United States with her husband Peter. They live in Naples, Florida, with four cats abandoned during the recession. She figures there must be a sign at the end of her drive that says two soft touches live here. After listening to her father's war stories and reading his tattered wartime diaries, the author felt compelled to write her first book "A Corporal's War," a memoir about her father's WWII adventures as a Royal Engineer in the British Army.
