Hal Thorsvig was a recent college graduate with a degree in psychology wondering what now to do with his life when a conversation with friends illuminated the idea of a career in sales. Sick and tired of being poor and eager to establish a career, sales seemed to present a fairly good opportunity. Good sales people made good money and he decided to give it a shot. Some 400 resumes later, he received an offer in sales from the manufacturer of a leading brand of antifreeze. At his first sales call, he became completely tongue-tied to the point where his manager had to take over. Admittedly shy,
