Ellen Burton Harrington received her Ph.D. in English literature at Tulane University. She is Assistant Professor in the English Department at the University of South Alabama. In addition to her interest in women writers of short fiction, her research examines gender in the sensation and detective fiction of Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, and Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the influence of these genres and criminal anthropology on the work of Joseph Conrad.
