Patricia Harkins-Pierre is the Chair of English and Modern Languages at the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas campus, where she has taught since 1989. As a teacher and scholar, her interest in early childhood literacy and literature is long standing, as is her interest in Caribbean popular culture. She is also a storyteller, and writes stories, poems and songs. Her Ph.D. is in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Mississippi, but she earned her BA in English at the University of South Alabama.
