Rev. Bonaventura Hammer (1842-1917) was born in Durmersheim, a thriving village near Carlsruhe, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Baden Germany. On the 23d of June, 1842. In 1846 his parents removed to this country and located at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1855 they sent him to St. Vincent's College, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he entered upon his classical studies.
