Charles Henry Haile was in his fifties and unmarried when he died. Haile dwelt in a Chicago apartment building, seemingly in impoverished circumstances. He was of a cheerful but laconic nature. Although apparently in good health, he quite suddenly died at age fifty-eight in his apartment and was found the next day with a smile on his lips. Next to nothing is known about Haile's life. He was born in Peoria, Illinois, in about 1884 and perished in 1940 in Chicago. He was awarded BA and MA degrees at Northwestern University.
