Lawrence Leonard Taylor was exposed to travel early in life by parents, both public school educators, that spent free summers towing him and his siblings around the country. Lawrence, left Detroit in the late 1970s in search of an identity beyond his city borders with a stint with the U.S. Navy. He became an avid chronicler of his travels to foreign lands in letters to family and friends.
