Peter Greenaway was born in Wales. He trained as a painter, and began working in the British film industry as an editor in 1965. He started making his own films in 1966, and has continued to produce paintings, novels, exhibitions and theatre and opera work. His 1982 feature, "The Draughtsman's Contract", received great critical acclaim and established him internationally as an important filmmaker. His films include "A Zed & Two Noughts", "The Belly of an Architect", "Drowning By Numbers", "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover", "8 1/2 Women" and "A Life in Suitcases".
