Gillen, Vernon

Vernon was raised by a steal plant worker and a homemaker. Although his father did not go to church his mother raised him in an Assembly of God Church. Vernon went to church every Sunday morning and night and most all Wednesday nights. Finally on November 29, 1973 Vernon joined the navy. That was the end of his church going days for many years. He was in the seventh grade when he wrote a poem that was so good that the teacher refused to believe that he wrote it and only gave him an A- for it. This was the start of his writing years.
