When Jane Gilbert was young, she kept a diary filled with short stories and poems. She loved dancing, acting, movie stars, and her rag doll, Arabella Anastasia. In 1947, inspired by rereading these diaries, Jane wrote and illustrated a little book, featuring a girl named Arabella Anastasia. Due to paper shortages during the Korean War, publishers were unable to take it on, and finally she tucked it away in a trunk. Encouraged by a friend, Jane dug out Arabella in 2001, dusted her off, and sent her to one last publisher. And now here -- at last -- is her story, "Indescribably Arabella."
