Slava Gerovitch was born in Russia in 1963. He holds a PhD in history of science from MIT (1999) and is a historian of mathematics, cybernetics, and astronautics. His book "From Newspeak to Cyberspeak: A History of Soviet Cybernetics" (2002) was awarded the honorable mention from the Wayne S. Vucinich Book Prize committee of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies for an outstanding monograph in Russian, Eurasian, or East European studies. Two other books are forthcoming: "The Soviet Space Age: Memory, Identity, Myth" and "Voices of the Soviet Space Program." He teaches
