John R. Gerdy is visiting professor of sports administration at Ohio University, Athens. His books include "Sports in School: The Future of an Institution" and "The Successful College Athletic Program: The New Standard". He has been published in such periodicals as "Black Issues in Higher Education", "NCAA News", "Sporting News", and "College Board Review".
