David A. Terrell was born in California and grew up in Hawai'i. Mr. Terrell lived in a subdivision between a sugar cane plantation and the beach, between Asian-Hawai'ian-Americans and European-Hawai'ian-Americansand Hawai'ian-Hawai'ian-Americans, between visitor and native, belonging to none -- and yet, in the long tradition of those Islands, belonging to all.
