Edward John Langford Garstin was born in Kensington, England, in 1893. A life-long student of the occult, he was initiated into the A. O. Lodge of die Golden Dawn in the early 1920s and was a member of the Quest Society until its closure in 1930. He wrote The Secret fire, first published in 1932, as well as edited W.Marsham Adams' Book of the Master of the Hidden Places, which combined two of Adams' works into one abridged edition (Ibis Press is publishing Adams' books unabridged in one volume). He also edited The Alchemical Writings of Dr.John Dee. He died in 1955.
