Ann was born in Ireland and moved to England at the age of seven, where she spent the next thirty-seven years before returning to County Donegal in 2006. Before returning to Ireland, Ann won a short story competition for Irish writers in Coventry. She is a regular voluntary contributor to the Donegal Democrat and has written several short stories which were published in "Woman's Way." In 2010 Ann had five short pieces about her childhood broadcast on Lyric FM and this provided the inspiration to begin a memoir. Ann is a keen gardener and a member of Donegal Abbey Singers.
