Ray Fleming is a physicist who recognized in his undergraduate years that the mainstream physics model leaves many of the most basic questions unanswered while other theories contradict each other or even more basic laws of physics. That being the case it was too risky to pursue a career in academia where one has to be indoctrinated into the standard model and eventually lose the ability to think of anything else, so Ray chose to pursue a career in industry while conducting physics research as a pastime.
