A graduate of the University of Melbourne, W. H. (Bill) Edwards worked in the Pitjantjatjara region of the far north-west of South Australia from 1958 to 1980, as Superintendent and Minister of Ernabella Presbyterian Mission, and from 1977 to 1980, as Minister of the Pitjantjatjara Parish of the Uniting Church. During this period he interpreted for the Pitjantjatjara people in land rights negotiations.
