Dave Sampson born 06.08.44, son of a miner, educated at Stanley Modern Secondary School. A plumber/heating engineer by trade, he signed pro for Wakefield Trinity in June 1963. He married Mavis in Dec 1966 - they had three children, Dean, Jonathon and Rebecca. At the age of 57 he penned his autobiography Fast Lane to Shangri-la; he followed this with My Shangri-la, the biography of his son Dean, a legend of Castleford RFC.
