As a child, Greg Dombowsky was inspired by Jacques Cousteau's incredible portrayals of underwater marine life and knew that when he grew up he would learn to dive. When he did start diving in the late 1980s, he found a need for a book that more thoroughly covered his home base of Victoria. He also concluded that maps specifically created for divers would be more useful than the nautical charts usually included in diving guides.
