The author, born and raised in a small, home-town, has had varied and frequent training with firearms, starting at the age of nine years. He participated in National Rifle Association matches in his high school gun club and went on to NRA high power matches, Rifle Silhouette, Pistol Silhouette, various defensive shooting matches, and attended schools by Jeff Cooper, Chuck Taylor, and other noted civilian instructors in addition to military training.
