In 1963, Robert was working for an American company, Britannica Films, on an educational film to be called The Islands of the Caribbean. Towards the end of the year he became engaged to Sally, the fashion editor of a top British women's magazine. But when the film project fell through and he found himself out of work, he suggested to Sally that it might be fun when they got married to move to the British Virgin Islands on spec, even though they had no money and no job to go to.
