Alex de Schweinitz graduated from Lamar University in 1970 with a B.A. in English. However, he pursued graduate work in psychology with the intent of becoming a clinical psychologist. He completed his M.A. in psychology in 1976 from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. While working for a clinic in Southeast Texas he completed court appointed psychometric assessments on troubled adolescents and interviewed school district students exhibiting early signs of emotional disturbance.
