Simon Davies is a graduate from the University of Bristol in the UK with a first-class joint honours Bachelor's degree in French and Latin. After graduating in 1992, he moved to France to teach English as a Foreign Language. Whilst studying for a one-year Master's Degree in English literature at the University of Valenciennes, he became interested in the poetry of the First World War, which led him to write a dissertation on the subject.
