Christopher David was born in Yorkshire, immigrated to New Zealand with his parents in the mid seventies. So was Yorkshire born and bred and New Zealand reared. He attended Wanganui High School, leaving school during the economic slump in the early eighties. Eventually found work in heavy engineering before he enlisted in the New Zealand Army as a chef.
