As a young child, Ramana Das grew up going to temples, study groups, and lectures with his grandmother. Das trained to become a physician, becoming board-certified in general surgery in the Unites States and Canada and obtaining "Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada." Das then went on to practice general and vascular surgery for nearly thirty-five years.
