Born in southern Ontario Jay first heard 'the call of the north' he recalls, while laying awake in his uncle's home tucked deep in the north woods of Algonquin Park in 1959. Always a woodsman: even in his formative years, like his father he never betrayed that calling. He served in the RCAF and found himself on the Pinetree Radar Line of the north.
