William Crute wrote his first story when he was in the third grade. Though he may not have known it, he was following in the footsteps of writers and artists throughout history whose hearts had pined for the notice and love of a woman -- girl, in this case -- and it became more complicated than just pining and more necessary to write about it when a classmate showed interest in the same girl.
