Poet, scholar-activist, and teacher Phylliz Sophikal (Philosophical) was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia during her adolescent years. After successfully completing a Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies (Concentration in Social-Behavioral Sciences) with a Minor in Spanish, she went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Pan-African Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Women and Gender Studies.
