Distinguished and celebrated New Mexico historian Ray John de Aragon has a family connection to Billy the Kid going back several generations. His great grandmother, Dona Catalina Mondragon de Valdez, was a noted Curandera (Medicine Woman) who treated Billy the Kid in Anton Chico, New Mexico. She was also present in Las Vegas, New Mexico after Sheriff Pat Garrett captured the Kid at Stinking Springs and took him to the San Miguel County jail on December 26, 1880.
