Jane Conroy lectures in French in the National University of Ireland, Galway. She received her doctorate in French literature from the Universite de Paris IV, Sorbonne, in 1994. She is the author of Terres tragiques (1999), a study of seventeenth-century French dramatizations of English and Scottish history. Her recent publications have been on questions of alterity and identity and French travelers in Ireland. Her current research addresses the part played by travel in shaping French awareness of other European nations.
