Author James Collett grew up in Pecos County. He has written on a wide range of historic topics in the area and is also the author of Images of America: Midland. The Fort Stockton Historical Society, founded in 1954, operates the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum, Historic Fort Stockton, and other historic properties.
