W.J. Cherf was born in Chicago in 1952. He graduated from Indiana University - Bloomington with a degree in Anthropology and then continued his education at Loyola University of Chicago with degrees in Egyptian Archaeology and Ancient History. He has traveled extensively throughout the Eastern Mediterranean and has been a member of academic archaeological projects in Israel and Greece. While his professional academic publications primarily focus upon the late Roman frontier of Central Greece, his articles have appeared in Egyptological publications as well.
