"Spoken word is a performance art that is word based. It often includes collaboration and experimentation with other art forms such as music, theater and dance." Spoken word performances consist of storytelling, exemplified by people like Saul Williams, Shihan and Staceyann Chin. Since I can remember I've been writing poetry. It wasn't until college that I was able to experience an open mic, and feel what spoken word really had to offer.
