Biography The author was born during the post Depression era. This was a challenge within itself, but being born to sharecroppers wasn't a desirable beginning. The part of the south in which she was born and raised; seemed light years away from modernization. The little weather beaten schoolhouse where she began her formal education was indeed an archaic symbol of progress even for that period of time.
