Barbara Chamberlain won the 2011 award for fantasy from the Arkansas Writers Conference. "The Flight of Alpha I" also was awarded a prize for juvenile fantasy in 2014 by The National League of American Pen Women. Her original Okinawan fable, "A Bowl of Rice," was First Place in the 2009 Writers Digest Competition. Her award winning books, "The Prisoner's Sword" and "Ride the West Wind" were named Recommended Reading by the National Council of Teachers of English. Barbara was a reference librarian at Harrison Memorial Library in Carmel, California, when she began to write, "A Slice of Carmel."
