Isidra Sabio was born in the Garifuna community of Cristales in Trujillo, Honduras. She attended world renowned Panamerican School of Agriculture (El Zamorano), becoming the first Garifuna woman to graduate from this prestigious university. She obtained her Master in Science from Louisiana State University. After graduating, she returned to Honduras and worked for the United Nations in Malaria control and research for 3 years.
