"Jackpine Bob" Cary had never flown a floatplane himself, but knew and had flown with many of North America's most noted bush pilots and had been on a number of wild rides. During the eight years when he owned Canadian Border Outfitters, he worked with Pat Magie's Wilderness Wings to fly many of his clients into the roadless expanse of northern Minnesota and Canada. Bob lived in Ely, Minnesota with his wife Edith for about 40 years and witnessed the heyday of bush pilots in northern Minnesota.
