Laura L. Carstensen, PhD is Professor of Psychology at Stanford University, where she is also Chair of the Psychology Department. She has published extensively about emotional, cognitive, and motivational changes with age and formulated socioemotional selectivity theory. She is a fellow in the American Psychological Society, American Psychological Association, and the Gerontological Society of America. Dr. Carstensen received the Kalish Award for Innovative Research from the Gerontological Society in 1993 and was selected as a Guggenheim Fellow in 2003.
