Ben Oshel Bridgers grew up in Arkansas and has lived his adult life in a small town in the mountains of western North Carolina. He graduated from Hendrix College, the University of Arkansas and the University of North Carolina Law School in Chapel Hill after serving as a junior officer in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam war period. After leaving the military he practiced law in a small town in North Carolina, serving as legal counsel for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for twenty-two years before retiring.
