Dan Brett is a cultural anthropologist by training, and a former Forest Service and National Park Service technician in Arizona and California, his articles have appeared in "Backpacker," "Country Back Roads," and "California Blacksmith," He wrote "Hike America: Northern California" (Globe Pequot). He lives in McKinleyville, California.
