Clyde Bresee lived on the Lawton plantation as a child, when his father came down from Pennsylvania to direct its dairying operations. No small part of the material in "How Grand a Flame" comes from his father's lengthy talks with Peter Brown. Dr. Bresee was born in Ulster, Pennsylvania, graduated from Mansfield State University, and took his master's degree at Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. at Cornell University.
