Joshua Bowen met Jesse in March of 2006 when he was a fifth grader at Apollo Elementary School in Aledo, Illinois. Their family hosts foreign exchange students, and this particular year, they housed a girl named Laura Kase from Germany. She was the artist for this project. Joshua has four older sisters and one brother. His grandfather, Dale Bowen, served as a Naval Flight Instructor during World War II.
