Boualem Bousseloub was born in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria in North Africa, where he grew up speaking three languages, but not English. The eldest of seven children, he learned a great deal by being responsible for his younger siblings when outside the house. That launched a lifelong interest in youth, which included serving in Algeria as head of a Statewide Study on Youth and as a member of the National Youth Commission.
