In 1996 Charlie graduated from Rose Bruford College with a theatre degree in writing. Despite some alarmed looks from her family and some unspoken but heavily implied doubts that she would ever put this degree to any practical use, she has managed to work fairly regularly as a professional writer. Her short film "My Dead Buddy," directed by Richard Clark (of Doctor Who fame), won the 1997 Lloyds Bank Channel Four Film Challenge.
