Michael Ian Borer is a graduate of Lafayette College and obtained a doctorate in Sociology at Boston University. He is currently Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the former Vice President of the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. Concerned about the dynamics of urban cultures, he is especially interested in the social, emotional, and moral relationships between people and places. His books include Faithful to Fenway: Believing in Boston, Baseball, and America s Most Beloved Ballpark (NYU Press, 2008) and Varieties of Urban Experience: The
