Barbara Berkowitz, Marilyn Shapo, Janet Stollman, and Sandra Yoffee, retired to Sarasota, Florida. In 2005, they began their writing group and discovered a common bond even though their backgrounds were so different. They became known as The Pearls as they read their stories in the community.
